Registration for the Crown Heights Career Hub’s upgraded spring program is filling up fast, with new subjects and separate classes for men and women now being offered.
With four successful cohorts already graduated, registration for the Crown Heights Career Hub’s upgraded spring program is filling up fast, as students take advantage of an opportunity to join the fast track to success by learning the valuable tools and business skills that are essential in today’s workplace.
Once again, the Crown Heights Career Hub will be teaching Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and keyboarding skills. Keeping its finger on the pulse of the business world, the program will also be offering instruction in:

A groundbreaking, one-week virtual business simulation program will give students an opportunity to make live business decisions in the areas of HR, finance and production manufacturing, using their newly acquired skills to compete for the most profitable business venture.

Responding to ongoing demand from the community, the Crown Heights Career Hub is launching its first-ever women’s cohort after Pesach. Both the men’s and women’s programs are filling up quickly and program director Neil Schwerd is advising anyone who wants to enroll to register now at www.chcareerhub.org to avoid being closed out. Employers are also encouraged to visit the Crown Heights Career Hub website or to email s.gold@jccgci.org to advertise their open positions or to hire one of the program’s many talented graduates.
What is Crown Heights Career Hub?
A program designed to assist young members of the Crown Heights community by offering an innovative curriculum and employment assistance, the Crown Heights Career Hub helps improve the long term quality of life and financial well-being of Jewish community members and their families.
The program operates out of a newly renovated storefront site located two blocks north of Eastern Parkway. Students attend six weeks of classes to hone their skills in English, math and workplace skills, followed by an eight-week paid internship with a reputable company. After successful completion of the program, students are assisted with entry-level job placement with potential for middle management positions in occupations with high growth potential.
The Crown Heights Career Hub was developed with the intensive input and guidance of an advisory committee of business, educational and social service leaders in the local community who remain closely involved in its activities. Under the auspices of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council, the program is administered by the Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island and was created through the concern, vision and generous support of UJA-Federation of New York and an anonymous donor.
The Crown Heights Career Hub is directed by Neil Schwerd and also benefits from the guidance of Virginia Cruickshank, the two bringing a combined 30 years of workforce development experience to the Crown Heights Career Hub. Schwerd expressed his gratitude to Crown Heights Jewish Community Council executive director Rabbi Eli Cohen for his assistance in launching the new initiative.
“In today’s competitive job market, we want to give our students the necessary skills they will need to grow into positions that can support a family,” said Schwerd.
Program staff remain in contact with graduates for the long term, providing advisory assistance even after they have begun their careers.
“It’s a win-win program for both the employers and for our participants,” observed Schwerd. “Employers can be assured that they are getting pre-screened, skilled and motivated employees to fill their open positions. We also invite input from employers regarding the desired qualifications they seek in filling their open positions.”
The program is open to applicants of all backgrounds and income levels between the ages of 21 and 28 who live in Crown Heights. Applicants must be motivated, willing to meet new challenges and serious about their long term career goals. Crown Heights Career Hub is currently accepting applications for the upcoming men’s and women’s cohort of students beginning February 2020.
