Beth Rivka Teen Club and ULY After-School Programs
JCCGCI facilitates two free after-school programs for middle schoolers in Crown Heights. They are located at the United Lubavitch Yeshiva and Associated Beth Rivkah Schools.
This innovative and progressive model is part of the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), Comprehensive After School System of NYC (COMPASS) and School’s Out New York City (SONYC) after-school system.
These programs take a progressive, holistic approach to working with youth in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. We understand that each student has unique interests and abilities, and when these interests are fostered in a safe and encouraging environment, students build the necessary confidence for life beyond the classroom.
JCCGCI’s after school programs offer a variety of classes such as photography, sewing, culinary arts and performing arts to ensure that every teen finds a study of their interest. We also promote the integration of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) into many of the courses. From computers and coding to animation and design, all students have the chance to get hands-on experience in this growing field of study.
We also offer two summer day camp programs to maintain student engagement after the school year ends and give them a structured, productive summer experience. Our all-girls “Pioneers” Drama Camp and all-boys “Machane Heights” Biking Camp help build creative and active teamwork skills. Both camps operate throughout the day with occasional evening activities.
These after-school programs provide a safe haven for students to express themselves and attain self-realization outside the traditional academic school day; they begin to perceive themselves with the necessary confidence to realize their potentials for success.
JCCGCI thanks the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) for funding that has made the program possible.
