21ST Century Community Learning Center
Since 2003, JCCGCI’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers have provided learning and enrichment after-school activities for high-risk, low-income and immigrant students in Brooklyn and Queens.
Our programs provide age-appropriate and culturally suitable activities to engage both students and their parents in constructive extended school day services. Participants’ parents can attend literacy classes, parenting workshops and life skills sessions. It’s important to us that these programs meet the needs of everyone involved. That’s why we elect a Youth Council every quarter, through which students may suggest and create their own after-school itineraries.
Students also have direct involvement in program creation and evaluation with periodic feedback surveys. Programming for the students includes a balanced curriculum with academic enrichment, sports and recreation, healthy living and life skills, social and emotional development, and community and civic engagement.
JCCGCI thanks the The New York State Education Department for funding that has made the program possible.
